B-Corp and BREEAM Outstanding Certifications
Sustainability is at the heart of bol's distribution centre in Waalwijk, which spans nearly 16 football fields in size. In collaboration with Eneco, no fewer than 13,000 solar panels were installed on the rooftop of this massive building in 2022. This green energy source powers essential services such as lighting and lifts, as well as the advanced sorting systems that process up to 500,000 parcels a day in the most sustainable way possible.

When the sun isn't shining, bol seamlessly switches to wind energy generated by Eneco’s neighbouring wind farm. All the electricity used by bol is produced locally. This commitment to sustainable energy has contributed to the distribution centre receiving a BREEAM Outstanding certification, and the organisation as a whole earning its B Corp certification.

Sustainability Across the Entire Chain
For bol, sustainability isn’t just about energy but extends across the entire supply chain. Currently, bol is reconfiguring its packaging machines to significantly reduce cutting waste. Additionally, where possible, parcels are shipped without any packaging at all. This not only saves space during transport but also reduces CO₂ emissions. Future Plans
Bol remains forward-thinking, continuously exploring new opportunities to achieve its sustainability goals. The company is investigating ways to further expand its solar energy generation and explore the role of energy storage. Additionally, bol is considering involving its partners more closely in its sustainability efforts, potentially even sharing energy in the future.
