A spectacular day for those who find the golden wrapper in the 'boekiebags'

Research shows that fewer and fewer Dutch children enjoy reading. Many children read considerably less, especially during the summer holidays. To combat this so-called ' reading slump ' and increase children's reading pleasure, Bol , together with the Youth Education Fund , distributed 30,000 ' bookie bags ' before the summer holidays . This happened at 180 primary schools throughout the Netherlands , where at least half of the students live below the poverty line. These backpacks were filled with a reading book and an activity book to get children enthusiastic about books and language. A chocolate bar with a gold wrapper was hidden in four of those bookie bags . Lucky finders won a spectacular Bollebozen event for the entire school. These events took place during Children's Book Week , at four schools in Rotterdam , The Hague and Amsterdam . The children came into contact with the magical world of books through games and entertainment . By engaging with language in a playful way, children experience the pleasure of reading. That is very valuable, because reading is not only fun, it is also very important for the development of children.
Report of the day
During the crazy events, Miss Roos, known from the children's program of the same name, came to read to the toddler groups and sing songs with the children. Groups 4 to 8 went through a colorful letter maze full of language games. Afterwards, influencer Wildebras (Gabriël Martina), known for his animal videos on TikTok and the Zapp program 'Wilde Buren', concluded with a dazzling performance about animal facts, including an animal quiz. Using his new book 'A Night at the Zoo', which the children all received after his performance, he told the children why he finds reading so fun and important. Wildebras: “I think reading is very important, because you can use your own imagination when reading. For example, when you read a book, you can unleash your own creativity and let everything speak to your imagination.”

Master Mark from De Blauwe Lijn school about the bollebozen event: “We notice that children read little. An event such as bollebozen excites them and can make them read more again.” In addition to organizing the bollebozen events, bol donated 80,000 books to various schools in the Netherlands, in line with the theme of this year's Children's Book Week 'At my home'’.
