New tour introduces 900 primary school children to the magic of stories and film through playful learning

Following last year’s successful premiere, Bollebozen is once again sending Cinekid’s inflatable cinema on tour, this time to new regions. This vibrant cinema will visit ten Dutch primary schools affiliated with the Jeugd Educatie Fonds during the current school year. More than half of the pupils at these schools grow up below the poverty line, meaning they don’t naturally come into contact with cultural experiences. Inside the inflatable cinema, children enjoy a playful and educational programme that offers a fun cinema experience while boosting their enthusiasm for reading. In total, over 900 pupils will discover the magic of stories and film in an interactive and engaging way, with reading joy taking centre stage. The tour is a collaboration between Bollebozen, an initiative by bol that promotes equal opportunities for children with a focus on encouraging reading, and Cinekid, the world’s largest film and media festival for children.
The mobile inflatable cinema was developed by Cinekid, while Bollebozen created the interactive video series Bollebozen Boekenbende: an educational and imaginative programme designed to stimulate reading enjoyment and language development among children in groups 1 to 4. During the tour, both initiatives come together. Hente van den Boom, Manager Bollebozen, says: "With this unique inflatable cinema, we bring culture, film and the Bollebozen programme directly to children. We’re incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with Cinekid and thrilled that we can once again reach so many children after last year’s success. It’s wonderful to share stories and the joy of reading in an accessible way with children for whom this isn’t a given."
Stories come to life with Iven Cudogham
During the screening, children will watch the interactive episode Anansi the Spin from the Bollebozen Boekenbende series, alongside Cinekid’s short animated film Kayak. Children’s author and storyteller Iven Cudogham will guide young cinema-goers live through the adventures of Anansi the Spider, bringing the story vividly to life. As a lasting memory of the experience, each child will receive their own copy of Anansi the Spider to take home, and each class will be gifted two additional copies.
Inflatable cinema on tour
Over the coming weeks, the inflatable cinema will visit ten Dutch primary schools affiliated with the Youth Education Fund. More than half of the pupils at these schools live in families below the poverty line. As a result, cultural activities such as cinema visits are often out of reach, and access to rich stories and language development is limited. During the tour, hundreds of children will be surprised with a special cinema experience right on their school playground, in cities including Groningen, Hilversum, Middelburg and Maastricht.
A successful follow-up to last year
This travelling inflatable cinema builds on the success of the 2024 edition. During the first tour, the colourful cinema was warmly welcomed at ten schools in the Netherlands and ten in Belgium. Just like this year, every child received a donated book.
Episodes from the full Boekenbende series are also available on YouTube, allowing children across the Netherlands and Belgium to join in.
